About
About Serenity
Serenity isn’t another activewear boutique. It’s somewhere to slow down — an hour out of the day, in a storefront that has been standing on South Main Street since 1848.
The shop
Serenity opened in 2026 at 412 South Main Street, on the east side of South Main Street in Galena, Illinois. It sells premium athleisure and cozy loungewear, wellness and self-care, a tea bar of loose leaf, candles and home fragrance, everyday jewelry, and a shelf of gifts under fifty dollars.
Around two hundred pieces are on the floor at any one time, chosen one at a time rather than ordered by the case. Brands currently stocked include Softies, Z Supply, Kitsch and Center Court Jewelry.
What it’s for
A place to step away
An hour out of the day, somewhere quiet, with nobody hurrying you. That was the brief before a single thing was ordered.
Chosen, not stocked
Every piece is picked to promote comfort, confidence and self-care. If it doesn’t do one of those three, it doesn’t come in.
For the weekend and the week
Galena is a getaway town. It’s also a home town. There’s a shelf here under fifty dollars and there’s something worth saving for.
Slow is the point
Sit down. Smell the candles. Ask about the tea. Nothing here rewards being in a hurry, including the shopping.
The building
The shop occupies a circa-1848 Greek Revival two-part commercial block listed in the Galena Historic District. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969 and covers more than ninety percent of the city — roughly a thousand buildings put up before 1900. Most of Main Street is red brick in the Federal style common in the 1840s, built through the decades when Galena was a lead-mining centre, a river port and the commercial hub of this corner of Illinois.
The cast plaque above the door reads 412 South Main Street. Peace of the Past antiques, at 408, is immediately alongside. The limestone that frames the shopfront is the same pale stone in half the storefronts on the block, quarried locally.
Everything on this page can be checked. The address is on the building, the building is on the historic register, and the hours are on the door. Where something isn’t confirmed yet, this site says so rather than guessing.
